Chef “Sugar” Shane Baruch was born to a young, single mother, whose dietary needs consisted of tofu, wheatgrass juice, and dehydrated foods. Shane did not take to this cuisine and often protested to his Mother. Eventually she conceded and began a $50 a week food budget and inadvertently set him on his culinary path. At age ten our budding Chef literally started shopping and cooking for himself! In the beginning meals consisted of hot dogs, ramen noodles, and frozen pizzas but quickly young Shane learned that Doritos and soda were not really what he was looking for! Longing for more he started tinkering around the kitchen and slowly realizing his passion for cooking. Shane’s creativity and curiosity continued to grow with his desire to please and entertain. In sophomore and junior years of high school young Baruch took the “Occupational Foods” course at the local Vo Tech center. With school’s two years and many culinary competitions Shane went to work at the local country club. Blessed (and cursed) with the best chefs in the tri-state area, Cook Shane spent two intense years of apprenticeship. Next an enthusiastic and promising Chef took his training to the next level and enrolled in Johnson and Wales University. After two more years of intense study, Chef Shane graduated Magna cum laude. Shane’s career boasts fine dining restaurants, upscale hotels, Bed and Breakfasts, country clubs, private chef and extensive catering experiences. Now Buford Highway Farmers Market presents Chef Shane Baruch and his creativity, charisma, and culinary knowledge, to our cooking class series. Buen Provecho, Bon Appetit, and enjoy your meal!!!!!
